Northside Community Resources (NCR) has one immediate opening for a part-time Fellow in its Multicultural Resources (MRP) program. The Fellow will work with the MRP Coordinator and MRP Team to assist in providing program services to walk-in and telephone clients. Candidates must be self motivated, have a strong work ethic and be attentive with good people skills. They must be comfortable working in a team environment and have the ability to engage with members of the immigrant/refugee population who have limited English proficiency. Candidates with bilingual language fluency in Nepali and Hindi is preferred.
Job title: Social Service & Communication Intern(s)
-Provide programmatic support in NCR’s Multicultural Resources (MRP) Program, which provides hands-on social services and resource referrals to the local immigrant/refugee communities;
– Provide language translation/interpretation between staff and clients (English to Nepali/Hindi and vice-versa). – Help design media ads and NCR program fliers/brochures in English and multiple languages;
– Help conduct outreach through canvassing, local ethnic/mainstream media and social media to improve public access to NCR programs and services;
– Provide programmatic and linguistic support by conducting: 1-on-1 client intake sessions, case management, over-the-phone and walk-in assistance to clients ( along with other duties as as signed by MRP Coordinator o r Executive Director );
Special skills required/desired: Candidates must have good verbal skills, be fluent in English to Spanish/Hindi or Nepali, have working experience in MS Word, Excel/Access, Power Point, Google Docs and have a good working knowledge of social media. Prefer candidates with a general understanding of nonprofit social services and working with immigrant/refugee populations. Candidate’s resume and three (3) references will be required for consideration. References could be professors, former employers, community organizational stakeholders who they have worked with in any community service capacity.
History and mission of NCR: NCR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, community based organization which has been providing advocacy and social services in the Rogers Park and other North side neighborhood areas of Chicago since 1952. Formerly known as the Rogers Park Community Council, it was formed in 1952 by community members with a mission to build and strengthen communities among the diverse populations of Chicago’s North Side. It rebranded in 2011 as the Northside Community Resources to better reflect the larger area it now serves.
Location where the student will be working: Northside Community Resources Office – 1530 W. Morse Avenue, Chicago, IL 60626 (in Rogers Park) at times out in the community.
Days/hours available for student interns to work: 15 -20hrs/wk during the hours of 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and/or occasionally on evenings and weekends.

Fellowship Stipend is: $15/hr
